September With Vigor
Like the musical stylings of Britney Spears or the intellectual prowess of some wild-eyed Republican candidates, Hurricane Irene was a DNQ disappointment.
Lament we might the opportunity to witness nature's full wind and fury. But thankful we be that the ole troll left town with a 'no damage done' sign pinned to her ample (510 miles across) rear side. So, celebrate we will... with a month of good times worth our partaking.

Summer Dinner Specials Continue Lobster Specialfor $19 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until summer ends which will be on the 21st or 22nddepending upon the smack down between the calendar keepers and the Equinox people. $2 Taco Tuesdays on... Oh-So-White Party - Saturday, the 3rd Because maybe everything isn't always just black and white. We will celebrate the fleeting days of... summer, our youth, or whatever with a White Party on Saturday, the 3rd, starting around 9 p.m. in The Pub. There will be prizes for the best 'all white' costume, outfit, assemble, whatever and (really good) music will be provided by our semi (bring down the) house band, Just like Newman. A good time will be had by all - so orders His Lordship.

Football To Start & Entries To End - Saturday, the 10th The sixth annual Landing Football Pool starts on the 11th and entries end on the 10th at 9 p.m. or until. As we all know, the LFP (see above) is for entertainment purposes only, although last year's winner did sport for some seemingly unseemly expensive gifts for his near and dear. The Erstwhiles Return - Saturday, the 17th The Erstwhiles, featuring His Lordship, The Other (Mike) Shea and The Always Noble Arthur McGeown, will appear (miraculously?) in The Pub at about 9 p.m. as Special Guest Performers of The Landing's Acoustical Tavern series. In addition to fine music and a typically fine Irish time, the Half-Way To St. Patrick's Day celebration will also feature green beer and two Irish menu specials - Corned Beef and Cabbage plus Beef Stew Over Mashed Potatoes and the collection of some semi-rare participants.

Le Grande Wine Tasting - Wednesday, the 21st The Landing's seventh Le Grande Wine Tasting will reconvene in the Samuel Lee Room, from 6 to 9 p.m. Co-hosted by Martignetti Wines and Winebow, formerly - or informally - Boston Wines, this season's wine tasting will feature more than 30 selections from The Landing's wine list and perhaps a few new offerings from Winebow and Martignetti. With interesting facts, trivia and stories of vineyards and vines, this is a fun event and a great way to try something new in the way of wines. Appropriate d'oeuvres and good conversation will accompany. Price: $10.00. Sharing the experience with friends and neighbors: Priceless.

Sports Night Grand Finale - Thursday, the 29th As all Landing Loyalists know, in addition to giving away fine gifts from Isle of Shoals Tours, Ipswich Ale, Allen's Pharmacy, The Manchester Athletic Club, Seaside Cycle, Essex River Cruises, ClubXcel and Captain Dusty's plus comp greens fees from some great golf courses, including Blackstone National, The Meadow at Peabody and Cape Ann, every Golf, Bike & Sports Night, we also pick a Series Finale Grand Prize Qualifier. There are only four weeks left to qualify for the Grande Finale. So, come by, have fun, show off your sports memory muscles, maybe win a prize and maybe qualify for The Grand Finale. (The odds of your having a good time are super in your favor.)

Early October Reminder The 12th annual Landing Golf Tournament will be on Tuesday, October 4th. It's a 12:30 p.m. scramble at The Meadows in Peabody. The $90 per person entry fee includes green fees, cart, prizes plus a prime rib dinner at The Landing in Manchester. Final Thought (and ponderable) This last day of summer thing is perplexing. Does summer end when the schools go back in session? Or, is it Labor Day, or the semi-arbitrary September 21st, or the day (night) of the Autumnal Equinox - the 22nd or 23rd, depending upon your home hemisphere? And if we are expected to remember birthdays and anniversaries, should be we taxed with this rememberable as well? But, why remember if we're likely to drink to forget anyway? Take care, be well and stop by... waay before the last daze of summer.
